The inimitable and somewhat iconic, Clint Maedgen, has just released his latest single. “Sandra Already Knows” is an instant Punk classic, with a sly hook of a chorus. The NOLA based Maedgen has quietly constructed a body of work that rivals any prolific artist of his genre. He fronted the band, Liquidrone for 12 years, an impressive feat in and of itself. He then ventured out into other mediums, including filmmaking and live stage productions.
In 2001, Clint established The New Orleans Bingo! Show, a live interactive experience. It combined elements of comedy, theater and of course, game shows, to become a popular destination in the New Orleans area. In fact, Clint and company took the show on the road in 2007 and 2008 with The Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The New Orleans Bingo! Show is a prime example of Clint’s eclecticism and vision, and how he brings basely related elements together to create something novel. He’s the kind of artist that breaks new ground without succumbing to pretensions.
Throughout the pandemic, Clint supported himself with the now widely used Patreon platform. Clint is inspired by bringing people together and embracing the unconventional. He sees a world in which art and entertainment has become a thoroughly hybrid concept. He combines his experience with his unyielding alacrity and almost becomes something of a quixotic in the process. The “mad scientist” label has been used to describe Clint, but truth be told he seems quite lucid in his aims.
Clint doesn’t stop at simply being an artist, as he’s something of a merchant as well. In order to fund the sessions that would give birth to “Sandra Already Knows,” he created his own line of merchandise. He’s the type of self-starter that either motivates and inspires others or forces them to reflect. He has a unique and personal relationship with his audience and he prioritizes the cultivation and the expansion of that audience. Through his initiative he was able to raise enough funds to graduate from home recordings to the studio.
As aforementioned, “Sandra Already Knows” is indicative of a top level songwriter. It’s nuanced and catchy, as well as dexterous, but still maintains a sense of simplicity. Clint likes to say that “people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.” The man has a firm grasp on where he’s going and why he’s going there. The joy is that we get to share in the ride with him.
Clint has promised that “Sandra Already Knows” is just the beginning of what will be a series of tracks to be released. If his latest offering is anything to base what is to come off of, then there is much to look forward to when it comes to Clint Maedgen. And of course, Clint’s projects aren’t simply limited to music. He’s gone on record as saying that he wants his weekly concert exploits
to resemble “Hollywood Squares meets Austin City Limits.” When it comes to Clint Maedgen, we’ve come to learn that if you can dream it, you can do it.
